Simpsons puppy food

Has anyone fed their puppy on Simpsons, our 4.5 month old golden ret is currently on this but has horrendous sloppy poos, he is currently on Salmon and Potato, have read all about the reviews etc on other foods, but the protein level is higher than what he is on now, and our vet told us not to have a too high protein level as can cause him to grow too fast.? currently this food is 30%…

Any advice most welcome…he is putting on weight and has energy etc,one vet we saw yesterday just dismissed it and said he will grow out of it, its what puppies do, in other words not much help at all…

any advice much appreciated…

I have fed simpsons to our dog when he was a puppy, but he did not get on with it, but now he is older I have found that he is better with wet food.
Millies do dried food and they do small packs , they do lots of different types, with various mixes ,some with lots of meat others with less.
I hope that you can get your puppy sorted.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I am not familiar with Simpsons products so checked the Dog Food Directory and there is more than one type of puppy food. You don’t mention which one you are currently feeding but Puppy Premium has 32.6% protein (dry weight) so is close to what you describe. Please can you confirm that this is the one you are feeding? Also, how much are you giving and are you weighing the food? Do you give anything else? Has your dog been wormed and has the vet ruled out any other pathology e.g. giardia?

He was on the Salmon and Potato 30% but now taken him off it as a friend told me that it contained Beet pulp which is hard for dogs to digest, so have ordered some burns Duck and Potato sensitive for puppies, which doesn’t contain this, presently just on Id to settle his tum down and in 24 hrs much firmer stools, still soft but formed…so heres hoping…

Thanks all for your replies…

As per my previous post, please can you confirm that you are weighing the food and feeding the correct amount? Overfeeding can cause the symptoms you describe. Changing food is unlikely to help unless you get this right. Has the stool been checked for infection/parasites?

Simpsons Premium Puppy contains salmon and potato - it scores 4.0. Is this the one you were feeding? It does contain beet pulp but this is a good source of fibre so should help to firm up the stool - see here.

Burns Duck and Potato Puppy is here. At 24% protein it is on the low side. Typically, puppy foods contain circa 30% protein. Pups need protein for their rapid growth. The first ingredient is potato at 44%, which is close to 50% of the recipe. Preferably, the first ingredient should be the protein source. Your previous food had this in that salmon was the first ingredient. If the new food helps, all well and good but maybe you could consider topping your dog up with some good quality protein foods.
