Fresh food feeding

Hi all, hoping you can advise me on what fresh foods we can use as a diet for our pup, that has all the nutrients he needs whilst still growing. He is a year old on 17th September. He gets very very bored with dry food, although he does eat his fresh food at teatime. We have tried all sorts but due to severe food allergies we are limited. Please don’t suggest raw as this is not an option!! He is severely allergic to all meat proteins and when we tried raw fish he also reacted to that, but is fine when it’s cooked. Our older girl is on cooked food rather than dog food due to wheat intolerance and we are thinking this is what he is wanting, which to be fair we would be open to if we can get all the correct nutrients into him. Any advice would be great fully appreciated. Thanks in advance

Both Butternut Box and Different Dog are premade fresh, cooked diets which are nutrionally complete even for young dogs. They are expensive but at least you are assured your dog is getting the correct nutrients. Different Dog offer five protein sources in different recipes (beef, lamb, chicken, turkey and one recipe of white fish and salmon). Butternut Box currently offer beef, lamb, chicken and turkey with fish and pork to follow at some point (fish soon, pork not til next year apparently) though they don’t vary the recipes like Different Dog do.

Hello and welcome to the forum Louise. Getting the correct balance of nutrients in a home cooked diet requires diligent research. Calcium should be added at the correct ratio. Do you know absolutely that your dog is allergic to all meat sources? If so, it severely limits your options. I cannot advise specifically on how to proceed with this but we have some useful links within this section of the forum that might be helpful to you.

Recently we have had news of insect based dog food so that might be worth exploring. Also there are vegetarian diets for dogs - link. Pure Vegi Plus Mixer might be worth looking at. It is dehydrated and requires the addition of a suitable protein source.

just to say that pure does do a fish one, I have used it and my dog seemed to love it, I hope that you can sort out your dogs food.
I also agree with Dottie that to do your own food is a bit of a challenge making you get all that they need.
