Hi! I have a 15week red fox lab. Our breeder had our puppy on Millie’s wolf heart but since visiting our vet for injections they turned us away from that claiming the calcium phosphorus ratio was far too high and could be dangerous with development. They gave us a list of low ratio food and ones they recommend ( all ones I wouldn’t consider ) I picked one, SPECIFIC puppy food. He’s been on that for 3 weeks now and during this time we had to take him back to the vet as he was excessive weeing and we thought some thing could be wrong, simple test where done and nothing came back as an issue, since then we have been told by our vet to monitor his drinking levels and they have confirmed he is drinking too much for his weight/ age and they want to investigate. I’m now torn as I am worried but I’ve gone back to my breeder and since found this recommended food he is on rates as awful… could this be causing him to drink so much making us think he has more serious issues? The breeder has advised putting him on raw for a month to see if the drinking continues and if it does then to do tests,
I do agree. I’ve been told my vet will probably disagree with raw food. I considering putting him back on Millie’s and it rated much higher but I’m still worried about the potentially high calcium / phosphorus ratio, can some one help with him and give some advise please. Is there other kibble food that rates higher and has a lower calcium phosphorus ratio? I’m thinking about swapping him first ( raw or a better kibble ) to monitor the drinking levels and go from there… any advise pls!!
Have they tested for diabetis ?
Also i cant help you re this issue but my dog has health issue with skin and infevtions and we put him on a raw diet fully complete one that you dont have to add anything too thats on this site as high in score levels naturaw and hes improved in his health so much having a diet thats lower in starches and carbs .May be its worth a try for a month and also a second opionion from another vet may be as they often have different things they specialise in .
Wishing you well with your dog.
